As for its origins, the debate is still ongoing about its true birthplace. Being Malaysian, we are biased of course. However, Indonesia is just next door and who is to say where it really came from. Therefore, one can say that the beauty of the Art of Batik is originated from both Malaysian and Indonesian cultures. The popularity of Batik has grown and with time, the western influence and commercialisation has also resulted in modernised batik.
